Our knives & scissors are made in a region of Vietnam where this craft has existed for many many generations. The AUTHENTIC BLADES are completely handcrafted in many small steps, giving them their unmistakable look. That's exactly why we decided to import these great products exclusively through fair trading conditions and small blacksmith families.

Not only do we ensure that families can work and live in their traditional structures, but we also ensure that you can use the best scissors and knives from the master blacksmiths from the streets of Vietnam at your home.

OUR PHILOSOPHY AT AUTHENTIC BLADES

The traditional division of labor in local structures plays an important role in Vietnamese culture, as it takes family cohesion, holidays and caring for old or sick people into account. In the small workshops of the blacksmith families, men and women work together on the products. Older family members live in the house and look after the children and the household. An entire region usually specialises in the production of one certain product. If the sales market for this disappears, this will affect all families living in the region.

In addition, this culture is threatened by large business establishments and is being replaced by the relocation of production to urban areas. If there are no longer enough job opportunities in their home region, fathers have to work as taxi drivers or unskilled workers in the big cities and only see their families two to three times a year. Because of the emerging urban areas, more and more young people are moving to the cities in search of work.

With fair trading conditions we want to ensure the survival of local Vietnamese businesses. Through our regular purchases of forged goods and the elimination of middlemen, the situation of the people in the region is improving. Families can continue to live and work together. The guaranteed export quantities can enable children to have a better school education and a more promising life. In this way, we at AUTHENTIC BLADES make an important contribution to preserving the 500-year-old blacksmithing art of the Vietnamese mountain villages.

The whole team of Authentic Blades has a direct connection with the Vietnamese families. This is an important part of building relations and having a direct insight on how the villagers lives and home environment has improved over the years of working together. Authentic Blades here in Australia was founded in 2022, after a love story with these knives for many many years many years using and appreciating these tools and the craftsmanship.

The origin of Authentic Blades comes form our friends in Germany who founded Authentic Blades with these exact Vietnamese blacksmith families back in 2012.
